Prologue:

Lots to read. But do you want to keep scaling past information to justify your silence? Or worse, to place your political belief over the fear of ridicule? Of losing friends? Business?

If you speak the truth as Jesus did, then you won’t be chastised for it.

As a friend once told me: if they don’t like what you’re serving they aren’t your people.

I am glad some are no longer my ‘people’ because I don’t want those kind in my life berating me for sticking up for what’s right and true.

It’s time for those in our community to use the platforms they have. (Not referring to my past business partner, referencing those on much larger platforms)

Hate cannot drive out hate - only love can do that. MLK, Jr.

Chapter 1 - It’s time

Just wow. This post from this Bishop. (Link below)

I love hearing those in a role who can speak from a pulpit, stage… podium … anything that draws them attention. They are bold and courageous not to mention brave; any person of color who does this puts their life on the line not just ridicule but safety of them and their family.

Yes, that is how it is today and these words even came from those in Washington who are speaking up.

We need more of this. Not just from the famous but from the ordinary.

From the ones who are our neighbors and run our communities, churches, agencies and big [local] corporations.

Instead of preaching for influence and resisting your congregation or customers from attending - speak from where love overcomes hate.

Speak as Jesus did.

Read the 3rd paragraph from the end in the Bishop writing, very carefully.

I was thinking today as I was listening to a roundtable discussion of republican and democrat senators (yes they sat at the same table and actually spoke openly) … anyway, I thought if one person of great Christian position, older than many …

It is someone whom many have listened to for years, or who posts regularly, has a local following and can [without trepidation] decide to speak up and promote love and truth to inexplicably rule out ridicule, deceit, racism, torrent words used inappropriately and politically incorrect, and rants against someone’s death that has no bearing on them yet affects so many hearts.

If that someone could do this … many people would finally be able to reveal …. what they are afraid to reveal because all this time they have chosen a political side over God given truth.

They have chosen a ‘side’ because it’s the Christian thing to do, it’s who their family chose, it’s what the Bible says … and excuse after excuse over what’s right.

I assure you … if one ‘person’ can begin a movement of fear, bullying, intimidation and miles of discrimination and disturbing rhetoric if others don’t follow ‘him’, imagine what a Christian with a voice that follows him everywhere can do within a community, city, cities, states. …

I am certain the voice, words would begin a trail of what we need to see.

I am just a small local Mexican woman who is incredibly empathetic and who has a strong desire for fairness, equality and justice … but my voice cannot carry what can be done by others. So, I tell you … if you can garner attention of just a 1000 people … you can positively affect them and then many more. The Domino theory is real. Obviously.

Silence is needed in many capacities especially if what you’re going to say be harmful and hurtful.

But silence can also denote agreement.

As a notable and honorable man once said:

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. knew long before what we were up against and he would be exhaustively trying to spread kindness, compassion and love for all if he were here now. Hmmm —- pretty much like Jesus.

Go ahead … admit it.

You are not following a Christian leader. As much as you wish you were. You’re not.

So without hesitation become one.

Every voice matters.

Thank you Bishop Tolbert Swan for using your platform so courageously. God be with you and many others. His link is below to the post that inspired me to write as canididly.

This is the post you are looking for; yes, I removed a couple of words because as brave as the Bishop is, I personally ... don't trust T with my race. Sad and wrong, I know. But still inspired by this post.
